Nokia Announces the U.S. Availability of the Nokia 5800 Navigation Edition
As millions of travelers get ready to hit the road for the holiday travel season, Nokia announces the U.S. availability of the Nokia 5800 Navigation Edition, an upgraded version of the popular touchscreen device that comes with device lifetime voice-guided navigation for North America and a car kit so it can be easily mounted on a dash or windshield.

Nokia 5800 Navigation Edition
The Nokia 5800 Navigation Edition features Ovi Maps for mobile, the industry's only mobile device solution offering real-time turn-by-turn navigation for both cars and pedestrians. When driving, Ovi Maps for mobile is a full-fledged car navigation solution with enhanced safety features like speed limit warnings and speed camera alerts, and near real-time information on traffic congestion due to roadwork or accidents. When walking, the service provides pedestrian-friendly directions, including routes that take a pedestrian up one-way streets and through parks, pathways and other shortcuts.
Unlike navigation solutions by other mobile device makers, which require constant mobile data connectivity to provide turn-by-turn guidance, Nokia puts its maps and the ability to search addresses and calculate routes directly on the device. This means users do not lose navigation capability when they travel to remote locations where cellular coverage may be unavailable, and also allows users to avoid significant mobile data charges. The Nokia 5800 Navigation Edition comes pre-loaded with maps for the entire U.S. and Canada, and users may also update and add maps from more than 180 additional countries at any time for free using Nokia Map Loader, a downloadable PC application available at www.nokiausa.com/maps.
The brilliant 3.2 inch wide screen of the Nokia 5800 Navigation Edition is perfectly suited for viewing Ovi Maps high resolution satellite and terrain maps, including 3D landmarks. With premium content from Lonely Planet, Michelin and Wcities, Ovi Maps also offers enriched Point of Interest information like restaurants, hotels and shops, as well as event and movie listings, and a weather service that provides 24-hour and 5-day forecasts. Accented by a stylish chrome ring, the Nokia 5800 Navigation Edition also boasts stereo speakers and surround sound, playback time of up to 35 hours, swift HSDPA internet connection and 3.2 megapixel camera with Carl Zeiss optics, and memory expandable up to 16GB.
Web Synchronization
Like all Nokia devices with Ovi Maps, the Nokia 5800 Navigation Edition can automatically synchronize with Ovi Maps on the web (http://maps.ovi.com) which allows users to:
- Search for addresses and Points of Interest
- Explore a location from the comfort of a large screen
- Plan routes in advance for walking or driving and then save them
- Save locations into Favorites and organize them into Collections
- Places, collections and routes can then be synchronized over-the-air between Ovi Maps on the device and on the web.
Pricing/Availability
The Nokia 5800 Navigation Edition retails for approximately 299 USD and is available through www.nokiausa.com and other independent online and retail channels in the United States. Through December 31, Nokia is offering a 50 USD Visa prepaid gift card for customers who buy the device and activate an account with Ovi Store, Nokia's marketplace for mobile applications, videos, games and more.
