LG Reveals New S-Class Ui Phones At Communicasia 2009
LG Electronics (LG), a global leader and technology innovator in mobile communications, will introduce the company’s latest innovative handsets and strategic direction for the year at CommunicAsia 2009 in Singapore taking place from June 16-19.
The phones at center stage for LG this year all include the company’s innovative new 3D S-Class User Interface, which debuted in the LG ARENA (LG-KM900) earlier this year. The LG ARENA is a fully loaded multimedia phone that offers an audio and video experience far more advanced than other similar devices. LG sold more than 300,000 ARENA handsets within just four weeks of its February debut at Mobile World Congress 2009, a testament to its appeal.

LG will launch a series of new S-Class UI phones in categories covering Convergence, Style and Entertainment. These include the LG-GM730 smartphone, the world’s first transparent LG-GD900 Crystal and the full touchscreen 8 megapixel Viewty Smart (LG-GC900) camera phone.
The LG-GM730 is LG’s new flagship smartphone, which is the result of a strategic partnership with Microsoft. The combination of the Microsoft’s Windows Mobile 6.1 with LG’s S-Class User Interface provides easier access to the powerful smartphone’s myriad features including easy to use e-mail and organization tools. The slim, 11.9 mm LG-GM730 is the first of several smartphones that LG will release in Asia this year.
The LG-GD900 Crystal is the world’s first transparent phone and also the first to use LG’s next generation touch technology. Its fully transparent Crystal Touchpad appears at first to be just an alphanumeric keypad but it actually doubles as a touchpad. It can be used exactly like the trackpad on a laptop computer but also recognizes handwriting, responds to multi-touch commands and offers a new way of navigation called Gesture Command. Using Gesture Command, users can switch instantly among applications by simply drawing one of 12 easy symbols on the Crystal Touchpad. Visitors to CommunicAsia 2009 will be able to experience the magic of Gesture Command via a large LG-GD900 Crystal replica at the LG booth.

One of the most talked about phones this year has been the Viewty Smart (LG-GC900). This phone follows in he footsteps of the original Viewty (LG-KU990), a 5 megapixel camera phone that sold more than seven million units. The new model features an 8 megapixel sensor and Intelligent Shot Mode that makes it easy to take great pictures by automatically analyzing scenes and adjusting camera settings accordingly. This type of technology is rare on even high-end standalone digital cameras. LG has specially tailored its S-Class User Interface to make using the new Viewty Smart as easy and intuitive as possible.
“The new handsets LG will be showcasing at CommunicAsia 2009 are each designed to meet customer needs in different ways but all share our easy-to-use 3D S-Class User Interface,” said Dr. Skott Ahn, President and CEO of LG Electronics Mobile Communications Company. “These top-of-the-line phones, like all of our devices, are based on insights from consumers. Turning customers’ ideas into reality is what we do well at LG and it’s emphasized in our theme at this event, ‘No Longer Just an Idea.’”
Other highlights at the show include several company world’s firsts such as the eagerly-awaited 3G Touch Watch Phone (LG-GD910) which LG publicly demonstrated at Mobile World Congress 2009. Making its first appearance at the show will be the LG-GW550, a new smartphone equipped with a QWERTY keypad and other advanced business-centric features. At the LG booth there will also be a section showing LG’s eco-friendly initiatives including a solar-powered handset and green packaging that uses recycled materials and soy-based inks. Another section will feature a number of handsets, including the LG-GM200, LG-GB230, LG-GB106 and LG-GB110, with built-in FM radios and speakers. These features, popular in some parts of Asia, allow people to listen to the radio without headphones.
LG will demonstrate the world’s first handset modem chip based on Long Term Evolution (LTE) technology. It is nearly 10 times faster than the fastest 3G HSDPA handsets available today and LG will show how this chip can be used to simultaneously download four HD-quality videos and play them back in real-time.
